A HALESOWEN schoolboy has made creative use of lockdown time at home by penning his debut book.

Jamie Beckett, aged nine, is now a published author after his story 'Jason V The Creations' was released on Amazon.

The Manor Way Primary pupil got creative after being set a writing task by his English teacher during remote learning sessions at home.

His mum, Adele Beckett, was blown away by his work so the family set to work to get the tale published.

Proud mum Adele said: "During lockdown he did this amazing piece of English work, I just read it and thought it was amazing.

"Everyone has really got behind him. He is making memories, we are all creating history because of coronavirus but now Jamie can look back and say I created a book."

Jamie's tale tells the story of a young boy who enters a different world through a knot hole in his garden fence where he encounters a host of weird and wonderful creatures.

Jamie dictated his story and his family were put in touch with children's illustrator Alexander Devenport via a family friend, who illustrated and designed the book based on Jamie's work.

The book sold 50 copies in its first week, with family, friends and his school eager to pick up copies.

Adele added: "He has always been imaginative and when push comes to shove he can make amazing pieces of work.

"I am so proud of him. He is a typical nine-year-old boy, he doesn't really show his emotions, but to see his face when he saw the book for the first time was priceless."

This is just the beginning for Jamie, who is an avid fan of the Harry Potter novels, as he aims to publish more stories to create a five-story series of tales.

'Jason V The Creations' is available to buy off Amazon now.
