SPORTY individuals and clubs are invited to take part in a community games event in Brierley Hill next summer.

The Dudley Council event, inspired by the forthcoming 2012 Olympic Games, aims to persuade residents to get involved in sporting and leisure activities and encourage people to have more active lifestyles.

Organisers are looking for individuals interested in sharing ideas or in organising an event as well as sports clubs keen to stage small tournaments and events.

Sports coaches and volunteers are also urged to support the games - and individuals, schools, clubs and voluntary groups are invited to take part in the initiative, which is part of the Brierley Hill healthy town programme.

Organiser are also keen to showcase activities based around music and dance to broaden the appeal of the games.

Councillor Lesley Faulkner, Dudley’s cabinet member for adult and community services, said: “This event will bring a bit of the Olympic spirit to the Black Country.

“This is a great opportunity for individuals and groups to showcase the kind of activities out there in the local community.

“We have so many talented people we should celebrate what they can do, whilst encouraging the wider public to become more energetic, helping us to achieve a healthy town status.”
