DUDLEY South MP Chris Kelly has come under fire for emailing fellow Tories touting for a Parliamentary job for his sister.

The recently elected MP sent an email to all of his Conservative colleagues in the Commons asking them to give his older sister Nicola a job as a secretary or office manager at Westminster.

His political rivals say the 32-year-old, who won the Dudley South seat in May, has abused his new found high-profile position to give 36-year-old blonde Nicola a step-up the career ladder at a time when many people in his Black Country constituency have lost their jobs.

The message sent out by Mr Kelly on the Commons email system included his sister’s CV and a covering note which read: "She is an accomplished and experienced secretary having provided secretarial support to senior management within our family business for many years.

"Nicola's absolute discretion and loyalty is guaranteed - she is also a committed Conservative."

Dudley South Labour campaigner - councillor Rachel Harris, who stood against Mr Kelly in the General Election, has slammed his actions, saying: "Chris Kelly should be spending his time doing everything he can to create jobs for the people of Dudley, not trying to sort out cushy jobs in London for members of his own family."

But the MP, an Oxford Brookes University graduate, said he simply did “what any brother would do”.

He added: “My sister wants to work in the Commons so I forwarded her CV onto my colleagues. All I did was send the CV on. I could have employed her myself but have not done so as I think it would be wrong.

“It was a simple email though I should have used a personal email address.”

Last year’s expenses scandal led to a clamp down on MPs employing family members, but Mr Kelly says he has no relatives on the Parliamentary payroll.

He added: "I don't have any staff in Westminster whatsoever and employ two staff (neither of whom are related to me) in Dudley South part-time for a total of 6.5 days per week to keep expenses as low as possible."

The ambitious MP, who fancies his chances of becoming Prime Minister - having bet on himself to land the top job in the next 40 years, said there are tips on his website for constituents seeking employment help.

He said: “Since last year I have been offering CV advice and help on my website. I am also always happy to speak with constituents ahead of job interviews to help them as much as I can.”

Before becoming an MP, Mr Kelly worked for his father’s lorry dealership Keltruck in West Bromwich.

His sister Nicola, who has declined to comment, has also worked for the family business and was once PA to multi-millionaire businessman Bob Edmiston of IM Group.
