THE traditional bonfire and fireworks show at Himley Hall went with a bang with more than 25,000 people flocking to the London Olympics themed event.
Last Saturday’s display, with its London Calling theme, marked the lead-up to next year’s London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Councillor David Stanley, Dudley’s cabinet member for environment and culture said: “The annual bonfire and fireworks show is one of our most popular events, but this year was even bigger and better.
“A huge amount of work goes into making this event a huge success year after year, and I’m delighted everyone had such a good time.”
The event featured a bonfire and fireworks show set to an inspiring soundtrack packed with sports anthems and tracks, celebrating some of the greatest sporting achievements of the world’s top sportsmen and women.
Other attractions included the Beacon radio roadshow, a giant funfair and refreshments.
Dudley will play host to the Olympic flame as it passes through the borough on June 30 next year, on its way to the Olympic Stadium in London in time for the opening ceremony of the 2012 games on July 27.
