BEWDLEY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: Despite this year being one of the most difficult growing seasons ever, there were plenty of entries for our Annual Show. The judges remarked on the excellent produce and there was a high standard in all the other domestic and handicraft sections as well. The main awards were as follows: Best exhibit John Lloyd, Banksian medal and most points Graham Link, best vegetables John Lloyd, most points domestic and floral Veronica Whatmore, most points Domestic Section Diane Chater.
The summer outing in July was local, with members enjoying a visit to the lovely garden of Simon and Penny Smith in the High Street. This small area was packed with interesting and exotic plants, and the evening ended with a glass of wine and a talk from the host on how the garden has developed.
The new season of monthly meetings will soon be upon us, with a talk on propagation in September followed by one on winter colour in October. This meeting also incorporates our mini Autumn Show.
The society meets on the third Monday, 7 for 7.30pm at The Riverside Church, Dog Lane. We welcome new members and visitors.
