MARY Stevens Hospice is inviting its supporters to take a scenic look at the local area as the Stourbridge charity hosts a number of walks along the canal network.

There are four walks available – all taking place on Sunday, May 21 – starting as far away as Bridgnorth and as close as The Vine at Kinver.

The walks will coincide with the inspirational 125-mile walk being taken on the same weekend by a group of hospice supporters, who will be raising money for the charity for walking for 56 hours without sleep or rest.

All four walks will end at The Maverick, in Brettell Lane, and the Amblecote pub will be welcoming walkers throughout the day, before a big end-of-walk celebration at 8pm, to welcome home the team walking the 125 miles.

The walks will be staggered starts throughout the day, with a 24 mile walk from Bridgnorth starting at 8am, a 15 mile walk from Stourport Basin starting at 10am, a nine mile walk from The Lock at Wolverley starting at noon and a 4.5 mile walk from Kinver starting at 2pm.

There will be numerous checkpoints along the route, and the hospice are appealing for anyone who would like to volunteer their time to man those checkpoints on the day to contact community engagement officer Laura Millard.

Laura said: “We're privileged in this area to have a gorgeous canal network right on our doorstep, and we could think of no better way to enjoy it and bring our community together than by having a big canal walk.

“The fact it ties in with the remarkable efforts of the team walking 125 miles is just a huge bonus, and we'd love to see as many people and pets as possible there on the day, enjoying the sunshine and getting a bit of fresh air and exercise.”
