Why did the Birmingham Assay Office choose an anchor for its hallmark when the city is miles from the coast? This and many other aspects of how and why of the Assay Office will be explored by Dr Sally Baggott during her talk to the society in May.
Dr Baggott, curator of the collections, will explain the role of the Assay Office in ensuring the quality of products made in precious metals and show why British hallmarks are respected worldwide for their accuracy and authenticity.
Starting at 7.30pm, the talk will take place at Chaddesley Corbett Village Hall on Tuesday and all are welcome. There is a small admission fee.
