Clent Gardening Club

The second Friday in May saw around 30 members enjoy an evening visit to the garden at Pear Tree Cottage in Wichenford. Set in the midst of glorious Worcestershire countryside this English country garden contains many interesting and quirky features and provided much food for thought and ideas for developing our own gardens. The evening was rounded off in very satisfactory fashion with tea, coffee and helpings of home made cake.

The normal monthly meeting in May was the annual joint meeting with our neighbours from the Belbroughton Horticultural Society and for the second year running comprised a “Gardeners Question Time” chaired by Philip Aubrey the now retired former director of the Birmingham Botanical gardens.

A lively evening was enjoyed with many questions arising from the floor and Philip’s expertise was put to the test on a variety of gardening topics. Philip was “assisted” on the panel by the chairmen of both clubs and members of both clubs no doubt departed with their gardening knowledge suitably enhanced.

The evening was rounded off with tea and coffee and a splendid array of home made cakes provided by the Clent Gardening Club members.

Philip then drew the raffle and the club chairman reminded his members that the next monthly meeting took the form of another evening garden visit, this time to The Cheryls at Button Oak near Bewdley.

All are welcome at our meetings which are held at Clent Village Hall on the fourth Friday each month and anyone interested in either joining or just visiting the Club can get further details by visiting our website on lentgardeningclub.wordpress.com or by contacting the chairman Martin Grange 01562 883009/07917 184762.
