RAIN failed to dampen the spirits of people attending birthday celebrations for the Queen in Pedmore on Sunday.

Activities took place throughout the afternoon which culminated with a rousing Songs of Praise service in St Peter's Church led by new Priest in Charge Sarah Northall.

Lay minister and joint organiser Richard Sarjeant said: "It went extremely well despite the bad weather which did lead to the cricket matches on the field being quickly curtailed.

Activities took place in St Peter's Centre which included craft fun, parachute games plus a cake baking and fancy dress competition, while visitors were invited to help make a birthday card for the Queen.

There was also a flower display in the church and cars from across the decades on view while a live band performed in the cricket pavilion Mr Sarjeant added: "The congregation really rose to the occasion and came up with more than we ever anticipated.

"We also managed to give away over 200 copies of our booklet 'The Servant Queen and the King she serves' which gives an indication of how many people attended."
