PUPILS at Pedmore Technology College cooked up a storm to pick up first and second prizes in a borough school’s cookery competition.
Student Matthew Whitehouse, aged 13 came first in the key stage three category of the Rotary International Young Chef competition - after battling it out in the Dudley final at Halesowen College against youngsters from other Dudley schools including Redhill, Thorns, High Arcal, Leasowes and The Kingswinford School.
While fellow pupil Aman Kainat, aged 15, was runner up in the key stage four category.
The teenagers had to prepare, cook and serve two courses - a main and a dessert with a ‘healthy option’s’ theme for two people - in a MasterChef style competition; and with the price of their ingredients not exceeding £8.
Food technology teacher Tracey Condlyffe said: ”We have some great cooks here at Pedmore and our team in the competition did so well.
“We are absolutely delighted that Matthew was awarded first prize and will now go on to represent our school at the Rotary district final in Telford on March 8.”
