A GROUP of Stourbridge fitness fanatics have managed to pull in more than £1,000 for the Royal British Legion after taking part in a remembrance stretcher run.

The team of members and instructors from British Military Fitness (BMF) Stourbridge tackled a 10km distance, carrying a stretcher, and took in three local war memorials on the way.

The stretcher was loaded with weight to represent a body, and the group had to have a strategy to complete the distance, changing carriers as they go.

Starting at their usual meeting point of Stevens Park in Wollescote, BMF park manager Simon Donovan and his team headed to Quarry Bank War Memorial before making it on to Brierley Hill War Memorial.

The group finally finished at Stourbridge War Memorial in Mary Stevens Park, after laying crosses and wreaths at each of the memorials and collecting donations along the way.

Simon said: “It was such a good day and we are so happy to have so far been able to raise over £1,036 for the Royal British Legion.

“We expect that figure to increase before we hand over the final amount, which is absolutely brilliant.”

He added: “A massive thank you to everyone that took part in the event, you all deserve a massive pat on the back. You’ve done yourselves proud.”
