PEOPLE are being invited to have their say on how a possible £1.5 million cash boost into a Quarry Bank park could be spent.

The Friends of Stevens Park have been working with Dudley Council to progress a bid for a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund grant to its next stage.

Members of the friends group will host a meeting at 7pm on Tuesday, January 31 – with new members and the local community welcome to attend – at the White House, on Park Road, where the funding bid will be discussed.

Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environmental services, said: “Dudley Council is passionate about maintaining and preserving its green spaces and we are delighted that the first stage of this bid has been successful.

“I would encourage the local community to come along to the meeting and join in with the friends group’s discussions around these very exciting plans.”

The second stage of the funding bid is set to be submitted in February 2018, after the feasibility plans have been developed for the project.

If successful, the money could be used to make a number of improvements including the restoration of the White House building to include a community cafe and community meeting space, as well as work to the park’s bandstand and entrance features.

The money would also pay for the development of a horticultural training project, heritage interpretation around the area, path improvements, bio-diversity improvements and school and community activities.
