POLICE say armed cops were deployed to Quarry Bank High Street yesterday (Tuesday December 19) as part of ongoing efforts to tackle gun crime in the region.

Offices swooped at around 5pm on the High Street – cordoning off a small section of the street while officers searched two premises.

No arrests were made and no firearms were recovered, but investigations continue – a spokesman for West Midlands Police confirmed today.

Detective Chief Inspector Annie Miller, from Force CID, said: “Gun crime continues to be priority for West Midlands Police and we are committed to taking illegally held firearms out of the hands for criminals.

“If anyone has information on the criminal possession of firearms in our region, I’d urge them to pass that information on to us either by phoning 101, or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 55 111.”
