CHARITY chiefs are to offer day care for the elderly in Stourbridge once again.

Age Concern Stourbridge and Halesowen had to move its day care provision to its centre in Green Lane, Halesowen, after council rent hikes at the Mary Stevens Centre in Oldswinford, Stourbridge, where the charity had run a popular day centre for many years.

The Green Lane centre already offered day care on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays but it became a five day a week service after the charity closed its Oldswinford base to help save costs.

However - chief officer Dionne Legge said: "Due to the long commute it has never really taken off on those additional two days, so we have decided to run day care on Monday and Friday at the Elton Centre in Stourbridge.

"We are aware that some clients never found anywhere else to go so this could be an option for them two days a week.

"The charge is £15 a day, which is substantially lower than our competitors, and Ring & Ride will be providing the transport."

Day care will be offered from the Elton Centre, off St John's Road, Stourbridge, from Friday May 11.

Green Lane will still operate a day care service on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
