The society met on April 24, with over 40 members and visitors. As the advertised speaker had been unable to attend, John Billingham kindly stepped in for us. He asked us “Do you remember life in the 1950’s.” We were then taken back in time, to the 1950’s, a decade well remembered by some and only vaguely by others. He talked about all the childhood games that were played, hop scotch, ( girls only, boys too rough!!) leap frog, skipping, roller skating, marbles and conkers. He reminded us of the radio programmes we listened to and the change in music as the country’s youth caught on to rock and roll. Food rationing was still in place until 1954, although sweet rationing had finished in 1953. The talk was accompanied by slides, evoking that decade so clearly. Mr Billingham was thanked for such an interesting talk. Following this the raffle was drawn and tea/coffee served.

The Ladies Society meets in the Amblecote Room of Stourbridge Town Hall on the last Tuesday of each month at 2pm. Come and join us. There are interesting speakers, outings and meals. The next meeting is on May 29 when Carol Harris will be giving us tips on living a healthier life.
