NEARLY 450 people flocked to enjoy a rare glimpse of a Stourton bluebell wood when it opened to the public for the very first time.

Keeper’s Cottage wood in Greensforge Lane, which boasts more than three acres of bluebells, opened on May 8 as part of the National Gardens Scheme and visitors flocked from far and wide to see the garden - the only bluebell wood being opened this year in the West Midlands area as part of the scheme.

Owner Peter Brookes said: “We had a fantastic turnout. We had nearly 450 people turn up and we raised over £1,200. It's a big boost for the National Gardens Scheme.

“It was remarkable. There were people coming from all over the West Midlands.

“It's the first time we've ever opened - and it was a beautiful day weather-wise.

“We opened at 12pm and my car park was full by 12.15pm. We had to go and ask the neighbour down the road to open his field up as an overspill."

Stourbridge News:

Money raised from the events will go to charities supported by the National Gardens Scheme.

Mr Brookes added: “We had a lot of people thanking us for opening it up and asking if we’re going to open next year."

Keeper’s Cottage wood, located in Greensforge Lane off the A458 Stourbridge to Bridgnorth Road, will also be open once again this Saturday (May 14) from noon until 4pm.

Light refreshments and teas will be available.
