CARE homes across Stourbridge will be welcoming the public to see what goes on behind the scenes on Friday (June 16) as part of National Care Home Open Day.

With the aim of encouraging local people to visit care homes in their communities, Care Home Open Day also allows homes to celebrate the positive relationships between residents and their families, friends and staff, as well as their neighbours in the surrounding area.

Amblecote’s Hollybush House, which is run by Shaw healthcare, will be hosting an afternoon tea party from 3pm, with guests including the new Mayor and Mayoress and Dudley, Cllr Dave Tyler and his wife Barbara.

During the tea party, representatives from the Alzheimer’s Society will also be giving a talk to visitors.

Christine Lee, home manager, said: "As a part of the local community, we feel it’s important to open our doors and let people see what goes on at Hollybush House; not just the services we provide, but the community spirit that exists within the care home.

“I hope everyone who visits enjoys the entertainment and is able to celebrate with residents and staff throughout the day.”

Wordsley Hall Care Home will also throw its doors open on Friday, with the Minster Care-run home hosting an afternoon of tea and cakes from 1.30pm until 3.30pm.

There will also be a ‘musical mobility’ session – where residents and visitors can take part in activities and exercises set to music and singing – between 2pm and 3pm.

Other care homes opening in the area include Wall Heath’s Holbeche House, which is set to put on a variety of activities, including music, entertainment, crafts, games, pampering sessions and hand waxing.

Care Home Open Day is an annual, nationwide campaign, supported by thousands of homes and care organisations, designed to encourage lasting links between care homes and their local communities, and to highlight the excellent care that homes provide.
