QUARRY Bank Royal British Legion volunteers have been out in force selling button hole roses for St George's Day to help raise cash to support the armed forces.
Branch members have been selling the red roses for £1, along with handmade lavender bags, at Sainsbury's at Merry Hill and Asda at Brierley Hill.
The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Alan Finch, stopped off at the Merry Hill supermarket to give the volunteers a helping hand on Wednesday (April 23) and young air cadets from Air Training Corps 2156 Squadron Brierley Hill also got involved and were packing bags at the supermarket on Saturday (April 19).
Branch spokesman Gloria Donovan said: "It's the first time they've helped us out. I'm really chuffed about it."
She said the sale of roses and lavender bags plus donations from the bag pack had raised around £850 for the legion's poppy appeal - which helps British servicemen and women and their families.
