PLANS to transform a dilapidated Kinver eyesore into housing has been put before South Staffordshire planning chiefs.
The proposals have already been given approval by Kinver Parish Council which would see the run-down former Royal British Legion premises demolished and transformed into six two bedroom homes.
Situated close to the Kinver Community Association building, the property was sold off a number of years ago as the Royal British Legion had long since rented an office in the village High Street.
County Councillor Brian Edwards said: "Although the building was sold privately some years ago, it has kept the Royal British Legion name.
“Since then, I believe the building has suffered all sorts of problems with the Environment Agency because of its situation in a flood plain.
"As a result, the building has been derelict for some time and has now descended into quite an eyesore. The location doesn't help either being situated right next to playing fields and a children's play area.
"I believe the building was previously used by the Royal British Legion as a social club, but it got to the point where they couldn't afford to keep it going and it became a millstone around their necks.
"Since being sold, I believe the building has been beset by problems. But the site would certainly benefit from some sort of development."
A Parish Council spokeswoman confirmed the application would now go forward to a six week consultation period before any final decision was made.
In the meantime the premises have been made secure in a bid to escape vandalism.
