THE future is looking uncertain for workers at Merry Hill’s WH Smith store after a sign appeared in the window claiming it will close its doors next month.
A sign displayed in the shop’s window claims it will close on Wednesday, June 8, at 9pm, and directs customers to the chain’s nearest branch in Stourbridge’s Ryemarket Shopping Centre.
However, Jonathan Day, marketing co-ordinator for intu Merry Hill, was reluctant to confirm the store is pulling out of the shopping centre.
He said: “We are currently in talks with WH Smith about their future at the centre.
“Our customers can be assured that we will continue to work closely with existing and new retailers to deliver a great mix of stores, products and services.”
The News has contacted WH Smith for a response to the apparent closure, but has yet to receive a comment.
The branch has been situated in the Brierley Hill shopping centre for almost 30 years.
