A 12-STATION outdoor gym has opened in Hagley, thanks to contributions from a nearby 24-home development.

The £25,000 facility, which features an exercise bike and cross trainer, has been installed in the playing fields off Worcester Road.

It was funded by Section 106 money from Billingham and Kite, which was granted planning permission in 2014 for new homes off Western Road.

During the planning process Hagley Parish Council lobbied extensively for funding towards open space facilities in the playing fields, and the campaign was brought before Bromsgrove District and Worcestershire County Councils.

Cllr Steve Colella, chairman of Hagley Parish Council and independent councillor for Hagley West, said: "This is a fantastic addition to the growing number of amenities. Now the adults can get involved.

"This is free, easy to use and suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness and importantly there are special adopted pieces that can be used by the less able.

“Add this to the fantastic gym and sports centre at Haybridge, the Roman Catholic Sports Hall and the wonderful countryside walks, which give a wide range of healthy activities for all.

"I am thankful for the help and support of Bromsgrove District Council's park and recreation facilities in delivering the project."

The outdoor gym is the latest development to Hagley's playing fields, which welcomed a skatepark and dual zip wire in 2015.
