HUNDREDS of women took to the streets of Hereford at night while remembering loved ones lost.

Almost 800 women took part in Venus: I Feel Love, an annual midnight walk now in its second decade which raises money for St Michael’s Hospice.

This year’s walk has already raised more than £20,000 for the Bartestree-based hospice, with more sponsorship still to come in.

Starting at Hereford Leisure Centre, walkers’ first port of call along the 10K route was a stop at event sponsors Cotswold Hereford MINI on Roman Road where they were greeted by a disco atmosphere.

Then it was on to Churchill Gardens and Castle Green for a pick ‘n’ mix stop before the walkers took in a specially-made Memory Garden at Hereford Cathedral ahead of walking through the city centre and back to the Leisure Centre.

Hospice events manager Matt Ashcroft said: ‘The 1970s returned to Hereford on Friday, and wasn’t it a great night?’

‘To have almost 800 women spend the start of their weekend walking 10K in memory of those close to them just shows how much warmth and love there is in our community.

‘Their support will have an enormous impact on the lives of families across Herefordshire and beyond, so thank you.

‘Thanks also to our sponsors, Cotswold Hereford MINI, for their support, and to our wonderful volunteers who marshalled the route and helped make the event the success it is.’

St Michael’s provides free of charge palliative care, plus support to families, throughout Herefordshire and the surrounding areas.

The St Michael’s Hospice Events season continues on October 6 with the Black Mountains Trek before a Firewalk at the Old Market Hereford on November 10.
