AUTUMN is the time of year when the Ledbury Allotment Association has more plots up for grabs than during other seasons.

This has been a very special year for the association, which marked its tenth anniversary and welcomed Gardeners' Question Time for two well-received recordings at Ledbury Community Hall.

Now there is space for new faces among the successful group, at its Burtons Lane base, near Wellington Heath.

A spokesman said: "This is the time of the year when gardeners think about tidying their land and preparing for winter.

"It’s just the same for the diggers and harvesters on Ledbury Allotment Association’s plots in Burton’s Lane, Wellington Heath.

"This is also the time of year when retiring allotment holders give up their plots for re-allocation list although we do allocate plots throughout the year if there are any available. However, now is the month when the choice of available plots is greatest.

"There are different sizes of plot available. We have 12 feet by 3 feet mini plots for those who want to try allotment gardening without committing themselves to maintaining a larger piece of land. Full size plots, traditionally measuring 10 rods which translates to 30 feet by 90 feet are the largest size we let, and we have a variety of half size and quarter size plots as well. There should be something for everybody."

The site has community facilities for members including car parking, an orchard, an eco-loo, bays full of soil conditioning products and water harvesting points.
