President June welcomed members including new member Christine, guests and our speaker for the evening Dr Gillian White whose talk was to be “Queen Victoria – A Life in Portraits”. Following the singing of Jerusalem lead by Mary, June reminded us that it was the sixty-eighth anniversary of our reforming and Jean responded with “and some of us are still here!” There was a small amount of business to be dealt with and plenty of pats on the back for what has been a very busy and successful month. Members had taken part in various fund-raising events including a walk for dementia, the Macmillian Coffee Morning and Bretforton Silver Band Concert. We had also taken part in the Group Skittles Match. Margaret Powell was presented with a voucher to recognise gaining one hundred points for entering the monthly competitions. There was a brief summary of upcoming events including the Annual Council Meeting at Malvern next week where our banner will be on display again. We will be holding our own Annual Meeting with many changes on the Committee due to the Three-Year Rule which dictates that certain members of the Committee have to stand down after having served three years and we are hoping that members will step forward to help. Copies of a Consent Form for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) were handed out for completion by members – even the WI has not escaped this! Dr White then gave a very enthusiastic and well received talk on the life of Queen Victoria through photographs and paintings via a slide show. She detailed events from before Queen Victoria’s birth when there was no one directly in line to succeed the king to her death just over a century later. It was amazing what Dr White noticed in the small detail of some of the paintings which were not immediately obvious including Windsor Castle on the horizon. The competition – A Portrait Photograph – was won by Annette. Margaret Dalton
