Occupational therapist Lizzie Large and founder of WOWD in West Oxfordshire has put her best foot forward to launch new dance classes for the county’s wheelchair users. These classes will be a first of its kind in the county.

Cotswold Wheelchair Dance is putting out a call for members to join its ‘Everyone Can Dance’ classes following the success of running in West Oxfordshire since 2016.

Offering ballroom and Latin dance classes for people with disabilities, including wheelchair users, the classes are aimed at teaching anyone with a passion for dance new skills, or a chance to brush up on old ones.

Classes, which normally cost £6 per session, will be reduced to £4.50 for 5 weeks. Adult and Child classes will be starting weekly on Monday, January 7, from 1pm-2pm (adults) and Saturday, January19, from 3.30pm-4.30pm (children) at Everyone Active Leisure Centre, Bourton on the Water, Gloucestershire.

The first session is free.

Classes are suitable for all ages and have already been very successful in Oxfordshire and in care homes around the county. Taster sessions and one off events can be arranged if required.

Lizzie said: “Dancing has been proven to increase endorphins, the body’s natural feel good drug, and it also helps with co-ordination and posture which has its own benefits. It also helps to reduce social isolation as it’s a great way to meet new people and lots of fun.

“So please come and join us. Regardless of your disability and needs we can adapt our classes and dances so you can get the most out of the class. If you require a carer please bring them along and they can support you in the class and could even become your dance partner!”
