A CHARITY which offers support to families who have been affected by childhood cancer will be hosting a ball to raise vital funds.

Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust has recently changed its name to the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust.

The name change aims to alleviate confusion and to make it clear it is a children’s cancer charity, while continuing to recognise it was established in memory of Grace Kelly, who died aged just four.

Grace, who was from Crowle, near Worcester, died just weeks after being diagnosed with cancer in 2014.

Grace’s mum, Jennifer Kelly, said: “The ladybird logo was based on Grace’s favourite stickers that we kept finding in unusual places after she passed away, a little like a message.

“The new image is based on another of Grace’s treasured ladybird stickers. The difference is that this time the ladybird is flying. The inspiration of this new logo was suggested by Grace’s little sister Jess.”

The trust has been working to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer and also offers financial support to families affected.

The charity has organised a Ladybird Masquerade Ball on March 23 at the Chateau Impney, in Droitwich. Last year, the Ladybird Ball raised over £23,500 to contribute to the charity’s work.

Dr Kelly added: “This year, we are holding the Ladybird Masquerade to enable us to reach even more children with our work. Childhood cancer is the number one medical cause of death of children in the UK. It affects one child in every 500 before they reach the age of 15 yet few parents know the signs of what to look for in their children.

“With the funds raised, we will be able to reach more families with our signs and symptom awareness cards and also to fund part of a new research project to help find better and kinder treatments for children fighting cancer. In line with our motto: Because the children of today all deserve a tomorrow.”

Highlights of the event will include a silent auction, raffle, entertainment and live music. Guests will be greeted with a drink followed by a three course meal, tea and coffee.
