IN a bid to combat Britain’s throw away culture, Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch, is urging residents to take their broken items to Repair Café Redditch.

The dedicated group of volunteers are on hand every last Saturday of the month at Community House on Easemore Road to fix items destined for the tip.

The service is free of charge and residents can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake while their items are repaired.

The MP recently paid a visit to the café to see the volunteers in action and to find out more about the work they do.

She said: “We throw away things far too easily these days when they could be fixed. That’s why it’s so great to see Repair Café Redditch helping to reduce the amount of stuff we send to the tip each year by fixing our broken items.

“Next time something of mine breaks I’ll be thinking again about throwing it away, especially when the repairers at Repair Café Redditch will have a go at fixing it.”

Repair Café Redditch are always on the lookout for more volunteers.
