Our February 2019 meeting began as usual with the singing of Jerusalem followed by President, Margaret Potter, welcoming members and our speaker for the evening, Georgia Jacobs together with her helper, Joan Lovett.

Margaret then went on to inform us of the events we could look forward to this year including a Craft Afternoon in April, our Open Meeting in July enjoying the songs and anecdotes of the late Victoria Wood and a trip to the local recycling centre at Norton which should be very interesting.

We are also contemplating something different for our summer meeting in August again as the riverboat cruise last year was very popular.

Members are being encouraged to participate in the competition at the Annual Council Meeting at Malvern later in the year.

Margaret referred to the January meeting (Show and Tell) and thanked Benita and Tina once again for excellent talks which was echoed by all members. She asked if we would like a similar meeting next year.

This idea was well received and volunteers were invited. She also mentioned that Janice is now a member of the Performing Arts Committee and had represented Littletons WI in the WI Choir at Worcester Cathedral in December.

Benita then introduced Georgia Jacobs. She had brought along textiles, enough to cover two large tables. We had had an opportunity to look at them before the meeting started.

She gave a very enthusiastic talk on the various pieces she on display. Georgia is a qualified lecturer in geology although now retired and is a volunteer geologist for the geopark covering the Malvern Hills, one of a series of geoparks in Britain.

She has had many exhibitions of her work including at Bewdley and the Severn Valley Country Park. Her work is mainly aimed at children and as long as there is a dinosaur of some sort in the work her audience is well satisfied.

Although aimed at children it is a beautiful exhibition and cannot fail to gain the interest of all ages. Many of her designs detail the various disasters affecting the earth such as the giant meteor which caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.

The competition – “something you have made” – was won by Margaret Potter who had brought along a beautiful blanket made of wool.

She had dyed and spun the wool herself and then knitted it into an exquisite blanket. As usual a lovely supper prepared by members followed.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, March 12. Chris O’Grady will give a talk entitled “Walking to Rome”. The competition will be an Italian related item.

Guests and new members are welcome. For further information including fund raising events contact June Lloyd on 01386 830844 or view our website on littletonswi.moonfruit.com
