VOTERS in eleven wards in Worcester will go to the polls in just over a week’s time to choose who they want to see representing them on the city council.

The current political balance of Worcester City Council is particularly fine - as it has been for a number of years now - and a vote here and there could vastly change the makeup of the chamber.

The city council will have at least three new faces after the votes have been counted following the announcement George Squires, Alan Feeney and Roger Knight would all not be standing next week.

Some wards have registered low turnouts in recent years and getting out and voting could prove to be - particularly in Worcester - crucial to shaping how the city will look in the future.

With central government funding to local councils changing - and in most cases significantly reducing - the city council could look very different in the future.

It is up to the people of Worcester to help decide who is making those decisions in the future and who is steering the city in the right direction and that can only be done by going out and voting.
