BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has made his first moves in the Conservative leadership contest by releasing his campaign video.

Mr Javid, who is also Home Secretary, is one of 10 Tories aiming to succeed Theresa May as party leader and Prime Minister.

Mrs May quit as Conservative leader on June 7, firing the starting gun on the race to replace her which will conclude in mid-July after a vote by party members.

In his video Mr Javid talks about his childhood in Rochdale and Bristol before explaining how he found opportunities in state education to build a career as an international businessman.

He has pledged to make Britain's schools and colleges the envy of the world if he becomes Prime Minister.

On Brexit he is committed to leave the EU on October 31 and the country must be prepared for a no deal.

He took flak for describing Ireland as the "tail wagging the dog" over the issue of the Northern Ireland border and says digital technology can be used to avoid customs posts on Britain's only land threshold with the EU.
