Owners of The Walled Gardens at Croome Court, near Pershore, say they are excited to be welcoming more talented artists to their venue.

And a Terry Pratchett and Harry Potter illustrator will be among them.

The aim is to showcase a number of artists’ work, as the second in the series of three exhibitions gets underway

A spokesman said: “Chris and Karen Cronin have been overwhelmed by the feedback they have received from the first exhibition and now, in their bid to support and promote talented artists and makers, they look forward to the second exhibition starting this weekend. It will run from now June until Sunday August 4.

“The gardens, known for its ongoing restoration project, are open to the public for six months of the year, from Easter through to the end of September. In this time, a series of three exhibitions have been planned. Each seven-week exhibition showcasing the work of four talented artists; two sculptors exhibiting their work in the gardens and two artists exhibiting their work in the Visitor Centre.”

The exhibition is showcasing the work of outdoor sculptor Laura Hickman, who works in reclaimed oak and gold, and Jeannette Therrien, who works in glass. Also exhibiting is ceramicist and Guild of Herefordshire Craftsmen member Neil Spalding and Pershore based artist Joe McLaren who is best known for his work in the field of book illustration, having contributed covers for editions of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series and J.K.Rowling’s Harry Potter.

The spokesman added: “Joe works mainly with scraperboard- a medium developed in the 19th Century for press reproduction, and prized for its immediacy and contrast. It produces an image with similarities to woodcut or linocut, but with the capacity for great delicacy of line as well as bold texture.”

Joe added: “ My self-initiated work is often concerned with landscape, folklore and history.”
