MORE than 2,000 revellers rocked out in Romsley at the weekend for this year's Romstock festival.

Singers and bands descended on Romsley for the all-day musical extravaganza on Saturday (June 15) which organisers have hailed as the best ever.

Bands performing included Supernova, The Jam DRC, Bhangra Smash Up, Rattlesnake Jake, Strictly Abba, Paul Shakespeare as Elvis, punk band Vaseline, Blondie and Freddie Mercury tributes, a Uncleiansaudiocircus and Dave Onions.

Band organiser Mark Moran said: "Despite the anticipated bad weather the event was a massive success!

"The rain held off and despite a few showers, the sun shone, and over 2,000 people had a wonderful time.

"Bangra Smash up had the field up and dancing early on, followed by festival favourites Strictly Abba, Elvis, Vaseline, Rattlesnake Jake and Supernova.

"We say it every year but this years line up was probably the best we've ever had, and the audience went home very happy, despite some getting a bit muddy."

The first Romstock was held as part of the Queen's Jubilee celebrations in 2012 and attracted around 200 revellers.

The festival, which is staged on playing fields in St Kenelms Road and is organised by Romsley Parish Council and its chairman David Powell, is a non-for-profit event and any profits made are ploughed into community projects within Romsley.

This year cash will go towards plans for a basketball court on the playing fields.
