WHEN Ludlow Cancer Support Group was asked for suggestions on what to do at their next meeting, member Janet Thomas asked if a coffee morning could be held in aid of Breast Cancer Care.

This spontaneous request was followed by instant action.

It was agreed that cake, coffee and sandwiches would be sold, and proceeds from the raffle would be donated to Breast Cancer Care. Lorna Osborne organised the food and Janet organised a quiz.

Members entered into the spirit of the event, and the sum of £176 was raised, which Janet will forward to the charity.

“Raising £176 in such a short time to support a fellow-member demonstrates the determination and camaraderie within the Ludlow Cancer Support Group”, said chairman, Rosemary Wood.

“Our aim is to offer fun and friendship, and we are able to do this not only at our regular twice-monthly meetings, but also through events like our Garden Party, held in Wigley’s Field Organic Allotments at Dinham. This annual event takes place near our own plot and garden, called Joan’s Garden, in memory of one of our founder members.”

The cancer support group holds regular meetings that range from experts offering advice on treatment and care to social events.

The Ludlow Cancer Support Group has been set up to provide a sociable and welcoming environment where, through friendship and shared experience, members can find additional strength to cope with their situation.

Their hope is that those attending will look forward to meeting people in a similar situation, enjoy one another’s company, and gain strength from each other.

The Group meets fortnightly on the second and fourth Friday of the month in the Parish Centre at St Peter’s Church from 11am to 12.45pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits are offered free of charge on arrival, and during the morning there will be an opportunity to order a simple lunch.
