REDDITCH gardeners will be able to pick up tips from a BBC expert at a question and answer session in the town.

St Stephen’s Church on the Green will be hosting a visit from Darren Rudge BBC Radio WM’s Laughing Gardener to answer gardening questions and give top tips.

The muti-award winning garden designer, broadcaster, RHS lecturer and garden writer will be at the church on Saturday September 7 at 2pm.

He has spent his career delivering and managing horticultural and other land-based qualifications as well as running a successful garden design consultancy.

He was one of the first recipients of the City and Guilds medal of excellence.

Darren regularly has articles published in the gardening press and is the permanent gardening expert for BBC WM 95.6; known as “ the Laughing Gardener” he was nominated for a garden media guild award in 2016 and 2017 for his novel and inspirational approaches to gardening issues and problems.

He said: “My talk and demonstration aims to show you how household items can be used to help people garden, especially those gardening on a very tight budget.

"Gardening need not be expensive; with some simple tips it can be very cost effective and I think we all don’t mind saving money.

"The event will be packed with fun and laughter with full audience participation required and you’ll certainly learn lots about how you can garden with the things you have in your kitchen, bathroom and bedroom cupboards; there’s lots of savings to be made and you will be amazed what you can do in the garden with teabags, an old bra and a pair of tights.”

Tickets cost £5 and are available from The Word Bookshop at St Stephen’s Church and the ticket enquiry line is 07836 644445.
