AFFORDABLE homes will be built on a former BMX track.

Lovell Homes will build on land off North End Lane in Malvern.

The land is currently abandoned.

Councillors approved the 50-home development - despite some concerns - at a Malvern Hills District Council planning meeting held at County Hall on Wednesday.

Malvern Town Council’s cllr Jeremy Thomas said: “Malvern Town Council have discussed access concerns during the construction phase and access along Elgar Avenue is totally unacceptable.

“It will cause problems due to the density of the population and there are lots of children in the area.

“Mayfield Road is a better alternative.”

Patrick Downes, representing the applicant, said: “The location for access has been accepted by the Highways authority and they’re happy with it and the development has been accessed to make sure refuge vehicles can gain access.”

A speed survey has also been undertaken as part of the proposal and traffic has been found to be at a safe speed of 30mph through the area.

Solar power will be on the site, part of providing renewable energy, .

The development will be a mix of one to four-bedroom homes and fibre optic broadband will be looked at to future-proof the site.

The site has been allocated for new homes in the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP). It was approved at the Southern Area planning committee meeting.
