IT remains unclear whether a Post Office facility will return to St Peter’s while a veterinary clinic is set to move into the premises it left behind.

Ambleside Veterinary Practice is moving to a unit in Abbotsbury Court, which was previously taken up by a One Stop convenience store and Post Office, with the latter still struggling to find a new home.

Tesco PLC, which owns One Stop, has said it cannot facilitate the Post Office in its superstore on nearby St Peter’s Drive and it remains unclear whether the service will be lost entirely.

It was announced in November that the mini supermarket was due to shut before closing its doors on August 21, while the Post Office closed on August 17.

Ambleside Veterinary Practice already has premises in Tolladine Road, with the move into St Peter’s marking an expansion of the family business of 20 years, to complement its existing site.

It will occupy half of the unit’s space.

The expansion into St Peter’s will create new jobs, including a new vet, veterinary nurse and receptionist.

Ambleside also plans to have a hydrotherapy unit at Abbotsbury Court for animal rehabilitation, though no opening day has been announced.

A Post Office spokesman previously said the postmaster had resigned and because it does not own the premises, it has had to withdraw its service.

“We understand how important a Post Office is to a community and we are committed to providing a Post Office in the area.

“We are looking at ways to provide Post Office services.”
