A CHARITY ball has raised almost £8,000 in a bid to support children with cancer.

The charity ball was in aid of the Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund.

Dawn Forbes, children and young people oncology nurse specialist at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, said: “It was an exceptional evening. It was a huge success.”

Mrs Forbes, aged 51, from Worcester added: “What I enjoy most about my job is seeing the smiling faces on the children when they come to clinic on a Tuesday.

"They are so brave and resilient and are just so inspirational.

“Even though the children are coming to clinic to receive chemotherapy, they rarely complain, and seem to enjoy coming to see us and spending time there while we provide the care and treatment they need.”

The ball was held at the Chateau Impney in Droitwich, on Saturday, September 21.

There were 168 people there, including staff, friends, parents, and also a teenage patient Molly Beard, who gave a speech.

In total, £7,855 profit was made.

The funds will be used to provide craft supplies for children when they are in clinic, refreshments at parent support groups, supplies for a journey folder where children keep a record of the treatment they have received, and also a small portion for staff education.

People from across Worcestershire donated raffle prizes and auction items.
