Evesham's Garage Art Group is celebrating World Mental Health Day this weekend with an invitation to visit the town hall to see how art can help people coping with illness.

The free event takes place on Saturday, from 10.30am-2.30pm.

Garage Art Group is a local charity that welcomes those from the community battling mental health problems and learning difficulties to join in the many classes that are run throughout the week by professional tutors.

A spokesman for the group said: " There is an ever-growing bank of evidence that documents the benefits of the arts on health.

"This can be in the form of creating, participating or even just experiencing the creative. Tangible results show us that art can help people better manage symptoms and improve confidence among many other positive outcomes. "Unfortunately, more and more of us are living with ill mental health and this is why we need to celebrate World Mental Health day.

"Our hope is that by hosting this event we can not only raise much needed funds to continue our work, but also to encourage conversation around some of the things that can help improve our day to day lives.

" We would love to see you all on Saturday to share in the fun.

"If you would like to explore your artistic side, no matter what your level, why not pop into the studio in Crown Court Yard to have a cuppa and a chat.
