A NURSE from Malvern who set up a support centre for the families of children with disabilities has been picked up an award from Prince Harry for her efforts.

Kim Philpotts, who set up the What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful group in 2013 after her son suffered a brain injury, was nominated for a WellChild award by her husband Scott, who said: "She really does not know what a lifeline she holds to these families as well as providing outstanding care in practice and goes above and beyond for any families that come and see her in practice, sign posting them offering a supportive ear for those with developmental and medical need.

"Kim put her heart and soul into making life that little easier for these families. The dedication and love that goes into working and providing care is amazing she puts in about 60 hours a week - She really does go the extra mile for everyone.”

Kim was one of the stars of the show at this month's awards ceremony and collected her award from HRH The Duke of Sussex Prince Harry, as well as many of the charity's celebrity supporters.

More than 500 families that have disabled children use the centre Kim set up, which offers coffee mornings, preschool groups, after school clubs, cooking clubs, life skills clubs, family trips and training.

Kim has helped bring in more than £500,000 for the centre through accessing funding and fundraising as well as holding down a job as a Nurse Manager and running clinics.

WellChild’s director of programmes, Tara Parker, a member of the judging panel, said: “It is a tremendous challenge to select winners from the many, many truly amazing nominations we receive from all over the country.

"All the panel members are moved by the bravery of the children, the stories of selfless care and support and the dedication of the doctors, nurses, teachers, brothers and sisters who make a great difference to the lives of seriously ill children and young people. Kim truly deserves to be the winner of this award.

In addition to HRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, previous WellChild Award evenings have been attended by Stormzy, Dynamo, Rod Stewart with his wife Penny Lancaster Stewart, Russell Howard, Pixie Lott, Barbara Windsor, pop band Scouting for Girls, Dragon’s Den star Duncan Bannatyne and many more.
