Latvian cellist Kristiana Ignatjeva is studying for her Artist Diploma at the Royal College of Music, with professor Melissa Phelps.

And in the New Year the rising star will be heading to All Saints Church, Evesham, for a concert arranged by Evesham and District Music Club.

A spokesman said: “She has worked with many prominent musicians including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Pinchas Zukerman and Nicola Benedetti, won many international and national competitions and was recently awarded the Muriel Taylor Scholarship.

“Kristiana plays on an Italian cello by Matteo Goffriller kindly loaned by the Royal College of Music.”

Kristiana will perform Beethoven (Sonata for cello & piano in C major, op.102), Myaskovsky (Sonata for cello & piano op.12), Brahms (Sonata for cello & piano op.38), Piatigorsky (Variations on a Paganini Theme).
