MORE than 80 people will lose their job after a business confirmed plans to close its Worcester distribution centre.

Staff at Wolseley in Wainwright Road, near the Shire Business Park, were told yesterday that the plumbing and heating product distribution centre will close this summer, the Worcester News understands.

This means the 84 staff there will lose their jobs.

A Wolseley UK spokesman said: “We announced on 17 October 2019 the proposed closure of our Worcester distribution centre as part of a wider change to our supply chain network.

“Following a review and a consultation process we have concluded we can strengthen our overall UK business by improving efficiencies and maintaining customer service, operating out of two UK distribution centres instead of three.

“Regrettably, this decision will result in approximately 84 roles being made redundant, with the Wainwright Road site expected to remain operational until early summer 2020.”
