WORCESTERSHIRE residents are being encouraged to get involved in a virtual zumbathon, to raise cash for St Richard’s Hospice.

Well known zumba instructor Aimee Ford is working with the charity to hold the fundraiser, after St Richard’s was forced to cancel a number of events due to pandemic.

The 50 minute zumbathon session is being advertised as the first ever online Worcester event of its kind, and costs only £5 to get involved - although participants can donate more if they want and are able to.

After registering, anyone taking part will be sent out a link to the session, being held on April 18. Although pre-recorded to ensure no streaming issues, participants are encouraged to complete the session together at the same time between 1pm and 2pm.

Miss Ford said: “The session is for all ages and abilities, and people are encouraged to take part doing what they are comfortable with.

“The great thing with zumba is you need no weights or equipment, just make sure you clear things (likes tables) for a space to dance in. We also want people to send us a selfie of them taking part, or get someone to video them. Send them to me or the hospice.”

The 38-year-old, who holds her own zumba sessions at a number of gyms, is giving up her time with every penny going to the hospice that cares for adults with a serious progressive illness during treatment to their last days.

Tricia Cavell, fundraising director at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We are so excited for Aimee’s Zumba class – it’s going to be such a fun way to get some exercise without having to leave home. This event will help us raise much-needed funds towards continuing our care to patients, and their loved ones. We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Aimee for donating her time for free. We hope you can join us from your living room to dance together for St Richard’s.”
