As the nation stays at home to save lives, it’s important that we all focus on looking after our mental wellbeing.

During this new normal of social isolation, some people are finding themselves alone at home, whilst others are juggling work, childcare and schooling.

Whatever your situation, there are small things you can do to adjust things and make the most of your time at home.

Councillor John Smith, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “Whilst we are spending the majority of our time at home and getting used to a new way of life, it’s really important that we look after ourselves and each other.

“I would encourage everyone to look at the advice and think about how it can apply to them.”

Director of Public Health for Worcestershire, Dr Kathryn Cobain, added: “Long established Public Health evidence tells us there are five ways to look after your wellbeing in everyday life. These are connecting with people, keep learning, staying physically active, taking notice of the world around us and giving to others.

“Our advice and tips have been adapted for the extraordinary times that we are living in. Please consider how you and your family can use them. Not all will apply to your lifestyles but please take the ones away and give them a go.”

The County Council has put together some useful tips and guidance aimed at making sure you look after yourselves and each other:

  1. Regular routines keep us going. Try to start your day at about the same time you usually would. Aim to set aside time each day for movement, relaxation, connecting with others and reflection.
  2. While you may feel isolated, you’re never alone, because we’re all in this together. Find creative ways to keep in touch with co-workers, friends, family, and others to help you all feel more connected and supported.
  3. If you are in a busy household, you all need to respect each other’s space and let each other have some downtime. Enjoy a bath, read a book in peace or whatever you like to do to relax.
