A REDDITCH dad has walked out of Alexandra Hospital to reunite with his family after battling Covid-19 for 75 days.

Leighton Webster, aged 42, was rushed into hospital in April and has spent more than six weeks in a coma.

He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and spent 59 days there before being moved from the ward when his condition improved.

Hospital staff previously said Mr Webster had a 'few close calls' during his time in the ICU.

Now, the survivor is finally well enough to return home to his family and see his children for the first time in nearly three months.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust have shared a video of the emotional moment Mr Webster walked out of the hospital.

Staff at the hospital are seen clapping Mr Webster as he walks towards the exit to hug his children.

Matthew Hopkins, Chief Executive of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said: “Our staff across all our hospitals are doing a magnificent job in working to put patients first through one of the most challenging periods in the history of the NHS.

"This includes frontline staff working under tremendous pressure looking after coronavirus patients and also those working tirelessly behind the scenes to support them.

“We are delighted that Leighton has improved enough that he has now been safely discharged home to be reunited with his family.

"His progress is a huge morale boost for our staff who are working day in day out to provide the best possible care for our patients.”

“It is important that local people do everything they can to reduce the pressure on our hospitals by following the latest social distancing guidance and maintaining scrupulous hand hygiene.”
