FREE sports are on offer again this summer for children in Worcester.

Freedom Leisure, which operates the city’s three leisure centres on behalf of Worcester City Council, is offering a multi-sport programme for children aged 5 to 18 years of age.

The sessions will run at 14 venues across the city from Monday August 3 to Friday August 28, and will include sports activities such as, football, tennis and cricket.

A Freedom Leisure spokesman said: "To comply with social distancing guidelines the sessions will look a bit different from previous years, including a requirement for parents to book on in advance.

"All the measures implemented will help keep children, parents and staff safe, whilst still providing the same fun sports."

Matthew Rogers, Freedom Leisure’s Active Communities Manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to deliver these community sports activities again this summer. We believe that Worcester has always been lucky to have free activities to help keep children fit and active during the school holidays, and we know it is going to be needed more than ever this summer.

Rogers adds: “We know there have been many children unable to stay active in the normal ways they would and enjoying sport with their friends hasn’t been an option for several months.

"The team has worked hard to organise these multi-sports sessions in line with all government guidance on social distancing to ensure children and young people can enjoy the same fun activities, in a safe environment.”
