A NAKED man was just ‘sunbathing’ and denied exposure and possession of two kitchen knives when he appeared in court.
Krysztof Rajczkowski of Bewdley Court, Bewdley Street, Evesham appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Wednesday for a plea and directions hearing.
The 63-year-old accepts he was naked on a footpath behind a hedgerow, around eight to 10 metres from the main road - the A44 near the Wood Norton Hotel, Evesham - on May 19 this year.
However, he denied possession of bladed articles (two kitchen knives) and exposure when formally arraigned by the clerk of the court.
Rajczkowski, who had the support of a Polish interpreter, said he was ‘sunbathing’ and denied ‘exposing his genitals with the intention that someone would see them and be caused alarm or distress’.
Judge James Burbidge QC, the Recorder of Worcester, presided at the hearing in court one.
The case was prosecuted by Simon Phillips and Rajczkowski was represented by Emily Heggadon.
The case was placed in a warned list for December 7 which means it could begin as soon as possible after this date.
Referring to the restrictions on courts because of the coronavirus pandemic, Judge Burbidge told the defendant: “There will be a trial – some day when we can get a jury.”
The defendant's only condition of bail is to live and sleep at his address.
