A BEWDLEY couple have been marking a huge milestone as they celebrated 60 years of marriage with family and friends.

Mike, 82, and Pam Brewer, 80, who live at Woodlands Park Homes in Bewdley, had a week’s worth of celebrations to commemorate their diamond wedding anniversary last Saturday (September 22).

The two were surprised with a countrified getaway at The Broadway in the Cotswolds the weekend leading up to their anniversary, where they stayed in a hotel, and enjoyed dinner at a friends’ cottage, who they hadn’t seen in years.

A party was held on the night of their anniversary, where Pam and Mike celebrated with friends and family.

The lovebirds were both born in Wolverhampton, and they first met at a dance at the Civic Hall.

The couple were married at St Mary’s Church, Wolverhampton on September 22, 1958.

Their reception was at the Prestwood Arms pub, where Pam recalled the song ‘This Is Your Lovely Day,’ bringing tears to her eyes at the end of their wedding day.

The couple have two children Anthony and Sally, as well as their three grandchildren Ellie, Jack and Joseph.

Mike used to play cricket at a professional level, playing for Wolverhampton, Cheadle and Stourbridge.

He worked as a prudential agent around the Worcester area, before taking early retirement.

Pam worked as a tailoress, before becoming a driver for a bank and New Cross Hospital, and a sheltered accommodation warden.

Over the years the two have shared memorable holidays together, including a special Mediterranean cruise in honour of their golden wedding anniversary.

Pam said: “We’ve had a lovely week of celebrations, spending time with friends and family.”

Pam shared the secret to their enduring marriage.

She said “It’s all about giving and taking.

“We’ve worked and played together, and we are still there for each other.”

Pam added: “We would like to give a big thank you to our lovely family and friends for making our anniversary so perfect.”
