A STOURPORT charity for adults with learning disabilities has received a £1,000 cash boost from a retirement living developers.

Leapgate Activity Centre, a recently-established charity based in Wilden, was nominated by staff at Churchill Retirement Living to benefit from the firm's Colleagues' Charity Choice initiative.

The charity provides educational and vocational training and support to adults with learning difficulties across Worcestershire, and has plans to build, operate and expand a facility to deliver activities such as animal care, catering, crafts, horticulture, woodwork and Zumba.

Leapgate founder Jan Jones said: "Leapgate has only managed to develop so quickly and fulfil its purpose so well with the help of countless volunteers, friends and family that without their enthusiasm and incredible donations, we wouldn’t be here today.

"We see Leapgate as a community welcome to all, whether you seek our support or simply want to come along and experience the fun loving atmosphere for yourself, we can always guarantee you’ll leave our premises with a smile.

"We would like to thank Dawn and Churchill Retirement Living on the behalf of the Leapgate family for the donation, we are extremely grateful for all your help.”

Churchill's apprentice quantity surveyor Dawn Wilde, who nominated the charity, said: "I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to nominate Leapgate Activity Centre and award them with £1,000 thanks to the Churchill Foundation.

"Leapgate is a tight network of inspiring carers and young adults who truly create a wonderful atmosphere for any visitors.

"With such a range of disabilities and learning difficulties accommodated for, I truly believe with enough support Leapgate will encourage the blossoming of such special people who are a credit to our community.”
