A TINY cattery accommodating just four felines at a time will open in the back garden of a home in Cookley this week.

Animal lover Jemma Powell-Tibbetts hopes The Littlest Cattery will provide more of a 'home from home' setting compared to other larger boarding facilities.

She said: "We are aiming to offer something wholeheartedly different to the larger cattery settings.

"We have only two bookable cabins. The veterinary surgeon who visited regarding our licence said it was the smallest he had ever seen in that we only board up to four cats. Of course the cabins meet the required licensing regulations.

"For me it's about spending more time with the cats. The Littlest Cattery is designed to provide a warm and welcoming home from home - it's a mix between pet sitting and a cattery."

Each cabin can accommodate up to two cats from the same home, or both can be booked as a 'family cabin' whereby the rooms are interlinked to create a larger space.

Mum-of-two Jemma, who has lived in Cookley all her life, added: "Our paperwork is extensive but this provides the opportunity to get to know every cat who stays with us - their likes, dislikes and little foibles.

"It is so important for us to make cats feel at ease and for them to feel comfortable and happy - a home away from home until their owners return.

"We endeavour to build a relationship with every cat who stays here and hope that if and when they return, they feel safe and used to us and our environment."

The Littlest Cattery, which opens on Friday (February 15), is already fully booked until the end of February, with further bookings in place up until Christmas.
