THE historic cricket pavilion in Kidderminster's Chester Road has undergone a £2,000 refurbishment to maintain the building for future generations.

Rotting wooden balustrades at the site, which dates back to 1925, have been replaced thanks to a £1,200 sponsorship deal from Hartlebury-based ARC Ground Care, plus £1,000 from Tesco's Bags of Help scheme and £250 from the Masons.

The work was carried out by CR Hobby and Son, with club volunteers pitching in to give the pavilion a fresh lick of paint.

Chester Road Sports and Social Club chairman Peter Radburn, who is currently researching the cricket club's history dating back to 1850, said: "It’s vital we keep this unique building maintained for current and future generations to enjoy and we are so very grateful for this level of support to enable us to do just that.”

Ade Cooper, owner of the club's main sponsor ARC Ground Care, added: “I’m always keen to help the club both from the point of view of supporting the community and also in memory of my late father, Sid Cooper, who was a keen cricketer here.”

Cricket club president Norman Broadfield gave his thanks to the funding contributors and volunteers.
